Aug 19, 2021...Today saw deployment of network infrastructure at Lesotho College of Education (LCE) by the Minister of Communications, Science and Technology (MCST), Honourable Ts’oinyana Rapapa.
This comes after a similar launch at Lerotholi Polytechnic (LP) last week through Universal Service Fund (USF) otherwise Lesotho Communications Authority (LCA).
In his speech, the Minister said he is appreciative of the fact that today's launch comes after the launch at LP, adding NUL is already enjoying the benefits. “This means students and Lecturers now have unlimited internet.”
He pointed out that one Million Maloti has been set aside to ensure implementation by Computer Business Solutions (CBS) led by Dr. Mohlalefi Sefika.
He commended CBS saying this is a local company that has since been committed to promoting of internet services.
He warned students against misuse of internet that is cyber stalking and bullying as this will be undermining the work done by the Ministry.
USF Chairperson and Principal Secretary (PS) in the Ministry of Communications, Mrs. ‘Mabataung Khalane said USF is an implementing arm of the Ministry meant to ensure ICT facilities across the country as well as transmitters for smooth communication.
She said deployment of network facility at LCE is one of the many activities under USF meant to strengthen quality deliverables, especially during this era of Covid-19 where research, buying, communication and other online services require this type of facility.
“Our intention is to ensure that students have ICT infrastructure so that they are able to do their work as well as to impart knowledge back to students from the community level,” USF Executive Secretary, Mr. Soko Thabisi said.
Acting Rector LCE, Mr. Paramente Phamotse stipulated that the college has a unique responsibility of training teachers hence today's event will help in executing education to students.
He further highlighted the need to use online solutions in a bid to educate students especially during this era of Covid-19.
“Once they are trained, they will go on to train students at the community level,” he said.
In conclusion, he said this initiative will bring fruitful results in the years to come as the institution also provides in-house training for pre-school teachers who otherwise impart knowledge to students from an early stage.
