Aug 09, 2022…The Minister of Communications, Science and Technology (MCST), Honourable Tšoinyana Rapapa says advancing digital skills for women and girls in Lesotho plays a fundamental role in developing the country.
The Minister said this when officially opening International Telecommunication Union (ITU) digital training for women and girls in Maseru today.
He commended local and global partners of the virtual workshop whose aim is to advance digital skills for Lesotho women and girls.
The Minister highlighted the importance of digital technology in allowing women to share experiences and explore opportunities in this era of technology.
He said the workshop will go a long way toward bridging the gap between a boy and girl child for the promotion of gender equality.
Meanwhile, he stated that the Ministry realizes the importance of provision to the internet hence together with Lesotho Communications Authority (LCA) are embarking on the construction of telecommunication towers.
Speaking at the same event, Mrs. Mamonaheng Koenane, founder of Impact School in Lesotho said the school is working towards the attainment of Sustainable Development Goals - SDG 5 whose target is to achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls.
She said today’s training is inclusive as the deaf are also participating, adding that participants are women and girls under Impact School.
On behalf of participants, Kamohelo Makhetha reiterated that this school is offering them enormous opportunities, as they are learning innovative and technological ways of doing things.
Amongst others, she said in October this year, they will be participating in the robotics challenge to be held in Switzerland; expressing hope, that Lesotho will come out victorious at this workshop.
This virtual training was held in collaboration with Impact School in Lesotho along with EQUALS Her Digital Skills, a global initiative aimed at designing and providing digital skills training, a -skills badges, and e-mentoring for one million women and girls by 2026.
