Jan 13, 2021--Lieketseng Latela from the department of Lesotho National Broadcasting Service (LNBS), within MCST scooped first position in the radio category of the 2021 SRHR media awards held in Maseru on Friday (10/11/2021).


The SRHR media awards otherwise Sexual and Reproductive  Health and Rights is a declaration made by journalists since 2019, to ensure that messages around this topic are well communicated across the country and to different age groups.


Therefore, Latela walked away with a laptop (personal computer) together with trophy while other Journalists (about 11), went away with different prizes that also included mobile phones and tape recorders. Furthermore, Mr. Thapelo Mabote of LTV (who was absent during the ceremony) also scooped third position in line with television entries.


Awarding Journalists on behalf of the Minister of Communications, Mrs. ‘Mabataung Khalane (Acting PS) congratulated  winners, saying regular reporting on these issues is fundamental and can lead to promotion of  development, fighting poverty and ultimately achieving SDGs.


Again, she expressed hope that through stories submitted, she is hopeful that they have been able to disseminate information in a broad manner so as to help women and young girls to make informed choices.


Similarly, UNFPA Representative UNFPA Dr. Marc Derveeuw said despite ones gender, all have the right to make right choices hence media plays a vital role.


On behalf of other winners, Ntsoaki Motaung who also got first position in print and online category expressed gratitude, saying the fact that she won first position in print shows that there is high level of maturity and growth in her reportage hence she feels empowered.


All in all, Mr. Tsíu Tsíu of the adjudication team reported that there were a total of 68 entries most of whom were from print and online while there were only three entries and one for television.
