Dec 09, 2021...The department of Science and Innovation within the Ministry of Communications, Science and Technology (MCST) organised virtual validation workshop titled Technology Needs Assessment Report.
Addressing participants, Science Director, Mr. Lefa Thamae said the workshop aims to give stakeholders provision to validate and deliberate on Technology Needs Assessment Report.
He said stakeholders in technology are the ones who know better various kinds of communication needed to improve service delivery hence the workshop.
Additionally, he stipulated that human development, accompanied with rapid changes in technology as well as increasing digital devices is a call for reaction if Lesotho is to grow economically and otherwise.
Meanwhile, United Nations Technology Bank Programme Manager, Ms. Orient Muloongo explained that the bank seeks to support least developed countries for attainment of SDGs. It is against this background that she said, the report provides country critical insights into functioning national science, Innovation and technology frameworks.
Moreover, she mentioned that the report also provides information on country development needs and gaps as well as available technologies so that areas of needs are known for assistance purpose.
Sharing her sentiments, Council for Higher Education (CHE), Chief Executive Dr. Lits'abako Ntoi expressed the need for the report to reflect on localisation of the curriculum, saying education remains a catalyst and needs to be transformed so as to foster innovation.
The workshop was officially closed by MCST Minister, Honourable Ts’oinyana Rapapa who also participated in these deliberations.
