The Minister of Communications, Science and Technology, Chief Thesele Maseribane on Monday requested M191, 595 000. 96 for his ministry in the National Assembly.
Chief Maseribane said the requested funds will assist in digitalising government sectors, adding that the ministry will also introduce e-Parliament, e- Health and e-Education under the e-Government Project.
He said, by digitalising government sectors, the ministry will create jobs for unemployed Basotho and improve channels of communication within the ministry.
“The calling cost will be discounted, especially in the rural areas and school will have access to data,” he said, noting that the ministry will also complete implementation of cyber security connectivity in the districts of Quthing, Qacha’s Nek as well as Thaba-Tseka.
In support of the Minster of Communications, Science and Technology, Member of Parliament for Teyateyaneng Constituency No. 24, Mr. Limpho Tau seconded that that the Ministry of Communications, Science and Technology be allocated the requested funds, saying the ministry plays a major role in disseminating information locally and internationally.
Mr. Tau therefore appealed for the improvement of the Lesotho National Broadcasting Services especially the Lesotho Television (LTV), singling out high quality services and content.
