Nov 11, 2021--The Minister of Communications, Science and Technology (MCST) officiated a two day capacity building workshop on script writing, media regulation, ethics and professional reporting in Maseru today.
In his opening speech, Honourable Ts’oinyana Rapapa commended MISA Lesotho together with Lesotho Communications Authority (LCA) for organising this workshop, saying it comes in the midst of reforms meant to enable all including media rethink its role within the society.
He highlighted the importance of the relationship between broadcasters and the regulator as the regulator has a mandate to regulate the work of broadcasters, thus serve the society harmoniously.
“This relationship should be based on principles of professionalism and common understanding, therefore I hope this workshop will influence broadcasters positively so as to achieve unbiased reporting.” He said.
He noted that the Government aspires for peace and stability in the country, urging the media to aggressively engage in debate that will see attainment of peace as well as Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) amongst others.
Similarly, MISA Lesotho National Director Mr. Lekhetho Makhanya Ntsukunyane said hand in glove with LCA, they are working towards capacitating and transforming the image of the media industry in the country.
“We are committed in ensuring that Lesotho media is competitive locally, regionally and internationally.” Present at this workshop include broadcasters from state and private media houses.
