Oct 19, 2021--The Ministry of Communications, Science and Technology (MCST) through Senior Research Officer (SRO), Mr. Tsépo Ntho will participate in the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference, otherwise COP26.
Upon arrival at the conference scheduled to be held in the city of Glasgow, Scotland between October, 31 and November 12, 2021 Mr. Ntho is expected to represent technology and innovation sector.
In an interview with the Senior Research Officer who is also Chairperson National Climate Change Committee assures the Ministry and the entire nation that he will join negotiations meant to seek and ensure capacity building as well as technical support in the area of technology and innovation.
“It is imperative that we adopt today’s changing technologies including skills learned from abroad if we are to achieve huge strides locally.” he adds.
The COP 26 summit will bring parties together so as to accelerate action towards the goals of the Paris Agreement and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change as according to information from UN.
In this conference, parties are expected to commit to improved ambition since COP21. They are required to carry out every five years as outlined in the Paris Agreement. The event was meant to be held in November 2020, however it was postponed for twelve months in light of the COVID-19 pandemic in Scotland.
Therefore, Lesotho will be represented by MCST including other stakeholders namely: Meteorology, Foreign Affairs and Forestry to mention but a few. In conclusion, the Ministry of communications has established through Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) virtual training last week that Lesotho through SDG in line with climate change has achieved green light meaning on track.
