Sept 16, 2021--Berea community led by opinion leaders witnessed the launch of Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT), thereby becoming the seventh district after the rollout in Qacha’s Nek, Thaba-Tseka, Mokhotlong, Quthing and Butha-Buthe.
The Ministry of Communications, under the guidance of Honourable Tsóinyana Rapapa is tasked to mobilise the nation, ensure that all get to understand this new format of broadcasting meant to reinforce quality video and audio signals than previous analogue.
In a bid to tap into the emotions of those gathered in Berea, Honourable Rapapa said of the 20 transmitters constructed in various districts, Berea has two, one in Koeneng and the other in Berea. However, he expressed disappointment that the transmitter in Koeneng has been vandalised and will cost M15 million to be repaired. He appealed to Basotho to protect infrastructure aimed at changing their lives.
In another development, he emphasised that Maluti and Berea hospitals including Postal Service are already enjoying digital migration process. “With this digital transformation, we are heading to 27 channels,” he said.
Moreover, he specified that a broadcasting complex is going to be constructed in Maseru as part of attaining DTT goals. The Minister also left a ‘change agent message’, to Berea community, saying Basotho should mask up and get vaccinated against Covid-19.
Meanwhile, The Principal Chief of Berea, Chief Sempe Masupha appreciated the fact that the rollout is happening countrywide, adding that each district has its own challenges that can easily be addressed during these visits.
Moreover, he expressed hope that with this new format, there shall not only be expansion but the national television will be capacitated so that viewers enjoy quality deliverables.
Sharing his sentiments, Berea District Administrator (DA), Mr. Liteboho Tshola welcomed the gesture with open arms, noting time has come for Basotho to value their own broadcasting skills and capacity.
