JUNE 23, 2021...The Ministry of Communications, Science and Technology (MCST) led by Honourable Ts’oinyana Rapapa reached another milestone, thus launched research and innovation policy today.
The noble initiative spearheaded by the department of Science and Technology was graced by the presence of Science experts including innovative students from different institutions of higher learning to mention but a few.
In his launching speech, Honourable Rapapa is adamant through policies such as these ones, Lesotho will achieve positive strides in as far as economic growth is concerned.
He notes that a research and innovation policy shall provide guidance and a framework to fast-track research and innovation activity in the country.
He indicates SADC is placing emphasis on excellence and the fourth industrial revolution (4IR), the more reason why Lesotho should not be left behind.
In particular, he expresses appreciation to Organisation of Pacific States (OACPS) who through the support of the European Union (EU) found it fitting to provide this policy support to Lesotho.
Sharing similar participants, Acting Principal Secretary, Mrs. ‘Mabataung Khalane stresses that National Strategic Development Plan (NSDP) ll identifies technology and innovation as one of the four productive sector’s that can contribute to the economic development of the country.
“As we launch the initiative today, we are looking forward to having a policy document at the end, that will guide us.”
At this launch, there was also presentation regarding OACPS research and innovation programmes.
