Provide an economically friendly ICT infrastructure and increase use of ICT and provide universal access and use of ICT services.

Objectives of the ICT Department

Provide reliable and secure backbone infrastructure that will cater for current and future IT needs of the Government.

Create a stable communications platform for all ministries/departments to utilize in the execution of their citizen-centric operations.

Reduce telecommunication costs by considering network consolidation and leveraging the investment by deploying additional services and

Provide a common internet link from the data centre to ensure a managed service with proper monitoring and regulation.

Sections

Enterprise

  1. Directory Services (AD), centralized software licensing,
  2. Management of PCs and servers, updating keeping software (Operating system, patching vulnerabilities, endpoint protection definitions) up-to-date, monitoring system status through Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager, MECM.

National Contact Centre

The Contact Centre has been set up for the public to easily report complaints, raise compliments, make enquiries and any discrepancies that may originate at the service centres. The functional operation and running of the Centre is earmarked to enable Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to instantly notice ailing challenges that would prevail efficient provision of services to the public.

Projects

E-Government Infrastructure Phase 1 (October 2014 – October 2021)

Objective: the project’s objective is to foster good governance through the use of ICT. Specifically, the project will improve the country’s public service delivery through the establishment of a modern core e-Government infrastructure and services among key ministries and government agencies. Further, it aims at strengthening access to government shared services, including data centres’ facilities and establishment of interactive information portals, and facilitation of access to key e-Application.

E-Government Infrastructure Phase II

The objective of the project is to drive digital finance and financial inclusion by improving access to reliable digital Services, particularly among citizens living in rural and unserved areas. The aim is to provide access to a diverse range of financial products and services for individuals as well as small, medium and large businesses through the expansion of digital infrastructure and services, which will lead to creating jobs, and contributing to Lesotho’s economic growth.
